Home made burgers

Following on from another post which mentioned burgers in the comments section I would like to get everyone's opinions on what do you think is a great burger recipe and how best to handle the ingredients. It was mentioned to only salt the patty just before frying it, but to me that would leave the middle a little bland.

What is your method for a tasty burger?

No burger police please. If you want to put worcestershire sauce and ketchup in it and you swear it's blinking lovely, please share your recipe.
